Four Dark Days in November – Radio WQMR -Reporting on the JKF Assassination Nov 22, 1963

November 23, 2011

I was abourt 9 years old in 4th grade at McKinley Elementary School in San Francisco CA when

I heard that our beloved President Kennedy was assassinated. My teacher was Mrs. Johnson and

she was the one to tell us and she had us take some time to be quiet.  I think I remember her

crying.

An LP record of audio surrounding the coverage of the assassination of President John F Kennedy. The album was a re-creation taken from actual recordings broadcast that four day period over WQMR radio in Washington DC. Many of the narratives were re-recorded and the music heard at the beginning of track one was taken from a needle drop transcription and not actually broadcast.

MY SISTER

Guest post by Gerard Mcdaniel

My sister and I thought it would be a great idea to go into business together doing professional organizing. We had a great thought to do closets for high end homes and that’s how we started out but when the economy hit we had to branch out and decided to extend our offerings to offices. That’s actually most of what we do now but we love doing the occasional high-end closet like we used to. The great thing is there’s not a lot of overhead in the business, just a www.Bank-Card-Processing.com credit card solution and the materials we need to get the closets and stock rooms put together. It’s really nice doing something I love for a living and getting to work with my sister and the good news is people are always going to need organizing so there’s really no stopping us when it comes to how far we can go! It’s nice being able to make my own hours and be my own boss and I know my sister and her husband love the flexibility.

Blog of the Month: Some History on Jackie “Moms” Mabley

The Great Moms Mabley

Listen to the “One Hour of Moms Mabley” near the end of the blog post.

I have memories of seeing Moms Mabley on tv and hearing her on the radio for comedy hour.   I was young but

she caught my attention because I didn’t know of any older Black woman saying the things she said.  Her timing was

impeccable!  Moms paved the way for our Black female comics today!  Moms was one of a kind!

‘Moms Mabley’
During the late 1960s, Moms Mabley was a very popular, hilarious, older female, stand-up comedienne.

Moms always said WHAT she wanted to, WHEN she wanted to. She pulled no punches. She never held back. She called a spade a spade.

Hello world! Welcome to Old Radio Fan Blog

May 12, 2011

I have fond memories of growing up. One of my favorite memories is listening to the radio.  My Mother controlled  the radio and I liked listening. On Saturday mornings, Stiller and Meara were on the radio “cracking me up”.  Stiller and Meara are Ben Stiller’s parents.  If you ever have an opportunity to listen to some of their work, you would completely comprehend why he is so funny! Both his parents have the timing and the gift of humor.

Others I listened to are; Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby, Moms Mabley and more.

After I got married, my husband J C and I use to take a lot of road trips.  One of my favorite things to do was listen to the Old Radio Shows.  We use to listen to The Shadow and other drama shows.  My husband soon became a fan too.  We have been married 37 years now.  And when we travel we love to put in a CD and listen to books and if we can find Old Radio Shows we still will listen.

One of the reasons I enjoy Old Radio is because when I listen to the story and the characters and the sound effects, my imagination is challenged to create a world in my head.  I am challenged to pay attention and stay with the characters as they face the antagonist and reach for that happy ending.

This blog will feature Old Radio Shows. I have researched and found so much treasure!  If you want to get notified when a new item is posted you need to follow me or subscribe with the link on the site. You can also click on the RSS Orange button to get the newest posts.

I will also post photos of the old radio shows I find whenever I can locate them.

Some of the Old Radio Shows have scripts that have been digitized and can be read by you and I.  Some scripts will be given for FREE and most will be available at a reasonable price.

I am so excited about this great American past-time.  I hope parents and grandparents will listen and reminisce.  I also look forward to parents of these eras to share the listening experience with their kids and grandkids.  I think kids would find the simple stories fun and it’s also a way to stir their imaginations.

Enjoy!
